Who rides from POP into the mountains
Jarabacoa sits at about 530 metres in the Cordillera Central, the cool green side of the Dominican Republic: pine forest, the Jimenoa and Baiguate waterfalls, rafting on the Yaque del Norte, and the trailheads for Pico Duarte. The rate covers Jarabacoa town, the lodges and mountain villas around it, the rafting camps, and the road on towards the Constanza valley. People who book it are heading to a retreat, a rafting or hiking week, a wedding at one of the mountain venues, or a family house. The last 30 minutes are a two-lane mountain road with hairpins; it is a comfortable drive in daylight and a slow one in the dark, so for evening arrivals we build the extra time into the plan rather than rushing it.
