Obtain three separate confirmations: the operating airline accepts your device and battery, airport assistance is arranged, and dispatch has confirmed a suitable road vehicle and loading plan. An airline approval does not confirm a transfer vehicle, and a transfer booking does not approve the device for flight.
Confirm airline acceptance for the whole itinerary
Contact each operating airline before travel, including connections, codeshare flights and the return. Give the make, model, dimensions, weight and battery details; ask what approval, documents and advance notice apply to your travel dates. A seller’s ‘airline approved’ label is not acceptance for your actual itinerary. Request terminal assistance separately and confirm where you will leave and recover your own device. Keep the written arrangements with your booking details.
Prepare the device and battery information
Obtain the manufacturer’s transport and safe-handling instructions. Record battery chemistry, quantity, identification and capacity as labelled, including watt-hours where applicable. Supply photos of the device and battery label, its transport dimensions and the weight of any manufacturer-approved removable parts. Ask the airline which evidence it requires. Do not apply ordinary power-bank rules to a mobility aid or assume every battery must be removed. Removal, isolation and protection depend on the device, battery and carrier instructions; do not improvise disassembly or electrical work.
Confirm the road vehicle and accommodation access
Send dispatch the device measurements and weight, folding or disassembly instructions, passenger and bag counts, and whether the traveler can transfer into a regular vehicle seat. Our published fleet guidance states that the fleet has no ramps or lifts: do not book expecting to ride while seated in the wheelchair. A larger van or VIP label does not establish a safe loading method. Obtain written confirmation of suitability and any assistance needed; do not assume the driver can lift a person or heavy device. For a Sosúa villa, Cabarete rental or Playa Dorada hotel, confirm steps, doorway access and the permitted drop-off with the property. If the arrangement cannot meet your needs, resolve it before confirming the transfer.

Plan the handoff at POP and the return journey
Ask your airline or its handling staff how device return and assistance will work at POP; do not assume return at the aircraft door. Agree the meeting arrangement with dispatch and keep contact details available offline. Check the device’s condition and operation when recovered; report a problem to airline staff and update dispatch before leaving. For the return, reconfirm the device, loading plan, pickup address and airline assistance. Combine the airline’s check-in and handling requirements with realistic road planning; driving time alone is not the hotel departure buffer. Changes to flights, equipment or accommodation need fresh confirmation.
Before booking: checklist and common questions
Can I remain in my chair? The published fleet does not provide ramps or lifts; regular-seat transfer and device loading must be agreed in advance. Does a folding scooter automatically fit? No: actual dimensions, weight, passengers and bags determine suitability. Is the battery always removed? No universal instruction applies; follow the approved manufacturer and airline process. Before booking, retain the airline acceptance, assistance arrangements, device instructions and dispatch confirmation of vehicle, loading, address, pickup time and quote. Do not treat an unconfirmed request as an accepted booking.
